Learn how to tie a conehead bee bugger!!!
One thing to get excited about when things start to warm up is streamer fishing. Fish get very active once the water starts to come up in volume and temperature, and they can get aggressive for a larger meal. The larger meal that I like to serve up early and especially on the Big Hole is the Conehead Bee Bugger. This pattern has been proven over the years and can be very effective. Follow the recipe and the tying instructions in the video below to have some spring success of your own.
- Hook: 4xl streamer hook, U302 Umpqua hook is a good one, size #2-#8
- Head: Gold cone head to match size of hook, Large for #4-#6
- Thread: Black 6/0 (140 denier) is my favorite, but larger 3/0 (210 denier) works great.
- Weight: .35 round lead or lead free wire for size #4
- Tail: Black marabou on top, Yellow marabou on bottom
- Flash: Hot yellow krystal flash about 4 strands on each side of marabou
- Body: Variegated black and yellow medium chenille
- Rib: Medium gold Ultra Wire
- Hackle: Grizzly yellow American Saddle, bugger pack, or strung rooster saddle
- Rubber legs: Yellow/black barred round medium rubber
