This time of year brings some of the best fishing along with lot’s of hype and expectation of new products of 2012. We meet with all the sales reps here in the fall, check out all the new cool gear, and make our decsions on what is really cool and what is not.
Sage has a new rod, The ONE. The hype is strong with this one. With most high end rods going above $700 in 2012, the ONE is right there at $725. They are “redefining” what an all around round is. The new Konnetic technology is three years in the making.
Right behind them is Scott Fly Rods with a new A4. There is not nearly as much buzz with the A4, but I would keep my eyes on this beauty. Handcrafted from start to finish in Montrose, Colorado by the skilled artisans at Scott Fly Rod Company, A4 rods feature many of the technological and process innovations that have been features in top end Scott rods. The blanks are designed and rolled with multi-modulus lay ups on compound taper mandrels, and are connected using Scott’s industry leading low mass sleeve ferrule design. A4 rods are smooth casting high line speed rods with very low physical weights. They recover very quickly and cast super flat, very precise loops, yet load progressively and transmit feel extremely well. Like all Scott rods, design and craftsmanship are more than just blank design. Components and construction were carefully chosen to deliver top performance with the anglers needs in mind. New grip shapes were turned from Super grade cork to provide greater feel, TiCh coated reel seats with self aligning slide hoods make rigging easy and protect the hardware from harsh elements, and TiCh stripping guides feature SiC inserts. The component group is truly best in class. A4 rods cover a wide variety of fishing situations from small creeks to inshore and saltwater flats. So whether you like to pursue trout, panfish, salmon, or tarpon, there are A4 rods designed to get the job done better.
Montana Fly Company (MFC) came through with LOTS of new stuff for 2012. They never seem to fail with new products. They have some of the most innovative flies, fly tying materials, and products out there. I (Mike) have a new fly with them that I am super stoked about. It is called the “Pedaphile”. It’s a big rabbit strip streamer that stalks fish as big as small children. LOL One of there hot new items is the boat box. I saw the prototype and it looks great, and it is abround $50. The iPad covers, flasks, and other new artist products look fantastic.
We have many more meetings with reps, and many more products to see. Those are just a few to think about and get excited about. Let us know what your favorite and least favorite new product for 2012 is!
